Made in Los Angeles, California, I was born David Matthew Worrix at Fullerton Hospital. From 1975 to 1978, I was involved as a US intelligence cold warrior for a secretive branch of the military situated primarily in the Far East. My group monitored, collected and interpreted intelligence which was often analyzed in the field — with results transmitted to the National Security Agency for further analysis and distribution to the Central Intelligence Agency and other intelligence recipients.

Studying abroad and at institutions on the US west coast and in the midwest from 1973 to 1983, I taught at six colleges and universities from 1982 to 2005.

Living reclusively with my creative collaborator and loving companion Maggie Merkes, we share a ranch overlooking Sedona, Arizona with a cranky ragdoll named Miles, two border collies, Mitzi and Iodine, a hillside filled with chickens, a darling Shih Tzu terror named Bear — and acres-of-flowers-and-breathtaking-views.
